Napoli (Days 11, 12 & 13)
Back on the coach for the last time we have just a short drive past Mount Vesuvius which has been in sight for several days now reminding us of Pompeii. Before getting to our final hotel we stop for a tour at the Capodimonte Museum home to a bunch of Renaissance masterpieces by all the biggies (our pal Caravaggio, El Greco, Titian and Raphael – whose tomb we saw in the Pantheon last week).
Leaving the museum we now had the challenge of getting all of us and all our stuff off the bus in Naples near the hotel. Our able driver took care of us and we all managed to find our rooms, drop our bags and reconvene for an optional walk of the nearby area. We had an orientation walk set for later in the afternoon with an option for pizza together at our own cost.
Savvy Travel Tip: learn a few words of the language – even if you sound terrible, locals will thank you for the effort. I have to admit that some of the area came back to me, along with some words and expressions!

Up and out to ride the Metro this morning to the breathtaking Cappella Sansevero and take a look at two of the most amazing works of stone ever. No photos allowed of course and they have to be seen in person to be believed. Then we went to the Nation Archeological Museum and were amazed by Pompeii and it’s treasures all over again. We had another great guided tour in the museum of the highlights and the “secret chamber” and then time on our own before our farewell dinner.
After the museum we went and had another bite to eat, and a last gelato and packed for our early flight before meeting the group for a last dinner together-at a place our old friend Caravaggio was stabbed. We were just stuffed, not stabbed.

Until next time we say Ciao to Italy and our new friends.
It was an amazing journey. Thanks for tagging along. We are already planning our next trip! Anyone for Scotland?!
